Assessment

Self-assessment and positive critical appraisal of their own and others work forms part of the children’s ongoing learning. This takes the form of discussions as a class, group or individual.

Teacher assessment also takes the form of discussion with the child focusing on helping the child develop their individual creativity.

Evaluation of projects is included as a stage in the design process.

Children are taught to explain to others what they are doing, including the giving and accepting of advice when appropriate.

The teacher through observation and discussion seeks to overcome any technical difficulties encountered by suggesting or demonstrating appropriate solutions.
Further discussions are encouraged through displays of the children’s work.

Knowing when work is complete is an important skill, though children are encouraged to push their satisfaction levels higher to make the most of their ideas/potential through individual discussion with the teacher. Quick finishers are challenged to develop their work to a higher level.

A written evaluation of the child’s progress is included in two written reports during the year (see assessment procedure).
