This GCSE English qualification consists of the following components:

Talking & Listening coursework – 20%

Reading & Writing coursework – 20%

Examination [2 papers] – 60%
In Year 11, pupils will complete the following coursework assignments:
Reading [10%]

study of poetry – pupils will study a range of poems including poetry from other cultures;

study of Shakespeare – pupils will study The Taming of the Shrew or Othello;
Writing [10%]

Persuasive tasks

Creative tasks
Pupils will also take part in a range of Talking and Listening assessments in the following categories:

Extended individual contribution

Group discussion

Drama-focused activity
In Year 12, pupils will focus on reading skills including analysing presentational devices, non-fiction texts, personal writing and analysing writer’s craft in preparation for the examination. Pupils’ writing skills will be developed in preparation for the examination.
