GCSE English Literature

This GCSE English qualification consists of the following components:

  • Coursework - 30%

  • Examination [1 paper] – 70%

Pupils will complete the following coursework assignments in Year 11:

  • study of poetry – pupils will study a range of poems from a list of proscribed poets [cross-over with GCSE English];

  • study of Shakespeare – pupils will study The Taming of the Shrew or Othello [cross-over with GCSE English];

  • study of Prose – pupils will study short stories by writers including Bram Stoker, Ambrose Bierce and Guy de Maupassant.

In Year 12, pupils will study the required texts for the examination:

  • Blood Brothers by Willy Russell;

  • Animal Farm by George Orwell;

  • CCEA Poetry Anthology A.
