History
“A generation which ignores history
has no past and no future.”
(Robert Heinlein)
“Those who cannot learn from history
are doomed to repeat it.”
(George Santayana)
At NCHS we believe History has a vital role to play in pupils’ lives and history’s popularity in books, television and films is a daily reminder that history is everywhere.
Pupils are encouraged to develop an enthusiastic interest in the study of the past, therefore we aim to:
- promote the importance of history as pupils investigate the events and people of the past, across a range of historical periods.
- develop pupils’ enquiry and critical thinking skills by giving them opportunities to study evidence of the past.
- encourage pupils to develop the Cross Curricular Skills and Thinking Skills & Personal Capabilities.
We have implemented the requirements of the Northern Ireland Curriculum enthusiastically and we follow a chronological approach to the topics studied. History meets the Curriculum objectives as it develops pupils as individuals, as contributors to society and as contributors to the economy and environment.
