Key Stage 3 Personal Development
At NCHS, Personal Development is studied by all pupils in Years 8-10 following the CCEA InSYNC programme. InSYNC works around 10 themes that reflect the development of the whole person. The same themes are studied in each year across the key stage allowing progression, development and more in-depth study as pupils develop in maturity and discuss issues most relevant to them at their specific age. This will help learners to recognise and achieve their potential, become active citizens and make informed, responsible choices through their lives.
The InSYNC themes are:

- Feelings and Emotions
- Managing Influences and Making Decisions
- Self Concept
- Managing Change
- Morals, Values and Beliefs
- Learning about Learning
- Safety and Managing Risk
- Relationships and Sexuality
- Drugs Awareness
All Year 9 pupils complete the Firestorm Fire Safety Course as part of the ‘Safety and Managing Risk’ Theme. Teachers facilitate this course with resources and support from the NI Fire and Rescue Service, concluding with a visit from local Firefighters.
