Religious Education

At NCHS we believe that Religious Education (RE) is very important to every child.  Therefore the Religious Education staff are committed to a study of  religion which contributes to the personal and social development of the pupils.  We believe that all pupils need to develop their own beliefs and value; to do this every child is given the help to explore a wide range of religious beliefs and the practices and related human experience.

In RE pupils are given the opportunity to get involved in: -

  • Role Play

  • Guest Speakers

  • Debate

  • Church Visits

  • Research Work

  • Inter School EMU Conferences

  • Group Work

  • Paired Work

  • Carol Services

  • Competitions

  • Charity Work (E.g. 5 4 fashion show)

  • Community Work (E.g. carol service)

They are encouraged to become “active learners”.  They are given the opportunity to raise questions about what they are observing.  Pupils do not simply gather information but try to develop their understanding.  In doing so, they relate to their peers and to adults and they express their own commitments and convictions in an atmosphere of open enquiry, mutual respect and tolerance.

Extra curricular activities that are linked with RE are:

  • Revision classes (lunchtime and after school)

  • Homework Club - where there is a RE tutor available for pupils to get help.  Pupils are actively encouraged to attend through the setting of research homework, etc.

  • 'Youth For Jesus' - Scripture Union Club for pupils of both Key Stages running every Wednesday at lunchtime.
