Under 14 East Antrim Cup Winners
A
superb long range effort from Mark Jeffers secured the East Antrim U14 Cup at
Mallusk. A solid display ensured that the boys overcame a strong Carrick Grammar
side. This ended a highly successful year for the boys at Newtownabbey as
they won six different competitions over the year. Medals will be handed out at
Sports Assembly on Thursday.
Year 9/10 Girls Compete in NEBSSA Rounders Competition
A
team of 15 pupils travelled to Loreto College, Coleraine to take part in a
rounders competition. This was the first time NCHS had entered the competition
and had to adapt to some new rules. NCHS played games against Dalriada Grammar
School, Dunluce High School and Loreto College. The girls performed extremely
well excelling when batting. Stephanie Cardwell proved to be a fantastic bowler
despite carrying a hamstring injury. Congratulations to all the girls who took
part and a big thank you to coaches Blair Glendinning and Jonny Withers.
NCHS Girls Lead the Way
at NEBSSA Day of Dance

Pupils from NCHS took part in a celebration Day of Dance at Causeway Coast Integrated College. Pupils from a number of schools displayed their talents in a variety of dance styles from hip hop to Irish Dancing. Our Newtownabbey girls set the standard in Disco Dancing showing a fantastic quality of dance and their own individual ability through their costumes and dance skill. Their technical ability especially their split leap jumps was commended by Karen Graham a leading dance specialist in Northern Ireland. Congratulations to Emma Rose Blair, Lauren Braiden, Rachel Dawson and Michelle Blair who excelled on the day. A huge thank you to all the other girls who took part throughout the day.
George Best Trophy added to growing collection
The
boys football team won the first George Best trophy held at the 3g pitches at
the Valley beating a strong Ashfield team in the final. The boys also raised
over £300 that will go towards the Children's Hospice. Pictures are now

NEBSSA Athletics
The
boys and girls athletics teams competed at the recent NEBSSA championships held
in Carrick. A record number of pupils took part in a range of events with Drew
Moore, Ben Smyth, Craig Gardiner and Jim Vance going forward to compete in
regional finals at the Antrim Forum.
Year 9's retain Northern Ireland Cup
Craig
Gardiner and Mark Jeffers both scored tremendous individual goals to ensure that
Newtownabbey retained the Northern Ireland U13 Cup with a two nil victory over
Dunmurry High School at New Grosvenor home of Lisburn Distillery. In a
commanding display set up by the strong partnership of Drew Moore and Jonny
Montgomery at the back the boys played some excellent football. They now must
focus on defending the East Antrim Cup which they also won last year which would
ensure the boys complete a unique treble.

The
year 10 football team have won the
first Eddie Irvine
Sports
Cup after going unbeaten in the tournament held in Bangor. The team put in some
excellent displays and the competition culminated in a thrilling 3-2 victory
over Glengormley High School. Scorers in the final were Craig Alexander, Craig
Gardiner and a stunning strike from Mark Jeffers.
Year 8's compete at Community Event
Aaron
McCarey was the star of the show as the year 8 football team competed at the
recent 'Unite Against Hate' tournament. The team reached the semi finals after
excellent wins over Dundonald and Corpus. Aaron scored 6 goals on the day and
was presented with a unique captains armband to mark the occasion. further info

Year 9 Rugby Tournament
The
year 9's competed at the Ulster Finals held at Carrick Rugby Club, In a tough
group the boys took on Downshire, Ulidia and Glengormley. Craig Gardiner, Drew
Moore and William McCartney (2) were the try scorers on the day.

U13's to defend Northern Ireland Cup
The
U13 team marched into the Northern
Ireland U13 cup final with a
comprehensive display away to Strabane Grammar. Straight from kick off the boys
dominated proceedings and opened the scoring after 1 minute when Jonny Dallas
scored a great curling effort from the edge of the box. Jonny went on to
complete his hatrick in the 9-2 victory. Other goal scorers were Craig Gardiner,
Drew Moore, Josh Doyle, Brian Sinclair and Mark Jeffers (2). The team will now
meet Dunmurry High School in the final after Easter.
Year 8 Rugby Tournament
The year 8 rugby team put in some excellent displays in the Antrim rugby qualifiers held at 3 Mile Water. The team competed against Ashfield, Monkstown, Carrick College, Glengormley and Downshire. Try scorers on the day were Ross Withers, Bradley Carson and Jonny Smyth. Other photographs from the tournament are on the gallery.
Linfield Training Day
Pupils
from Newtownabbey CHS and feeder primary schools enjoyed a day training with the
professional footballers of Linfield FC. Pupils enjoyed a coaching session as
well as a tour of Windsor Park. Click on the image to view other pictures from

The year 8 rugby team played their first match against Monkstown this week. In a even contest Bradley Carson top scored with 4 tries. Jonny Smyth also scored 2 tries. click on the images to view pictures!
Ski trip
Pupils enjoy the snow in Bulgaria - a group of pupils are currently enjoying a skiing trip in Bulgaria. The group are spending a week away enhancing their skills under the guidance of Miss Mornin.
Pupils from Year 12 recently completed an Orienteering course as part of their GCSE PE assessment. The group were commended by the leaders at Woodhall Education Centre who commented on their excellent application and skill levels. Click on photo opposite to see more pictures from the course.
The Year 9's clinched the East Antrim League after a convincing 4 nil victory over Monkstown. Goals from Mark Jeffers, Craig Gardiner and 2 from Aaron McCarey ensured the team finished their league campaign with a 100% record.

Football Season kicks off
Pupils played matches this week against Carrick College, Ashfield and Glengormley. Jonny Dallas tops the scoring charts with 6 goals in a week.
The Newtownabbey Under 13 football won the Northern Ireland Cup for the first time with a great 2-1 victory over Larne at Dixon Park in Ballyclare. Jason Hunter scored the two goals in an impressive display by the team.

The Under 15 team put in a super performance and created numerous chances to take the cup. sadly a goal 10 minutes from the end meant that all their hard work was unrewarded.
